This three-day lecture and laboratory course is structured to provide life scientists who are not experienced in mammalian cell culture with an introduction to the principles and practices that will facilitate their ability to develop the use of in vitro systems. After successful completion of the workshop, participants are expected to feel comfortable handling general mammalian cell lines, detecting most common problems in cell culture room and troubleshoot accordingly.
Lecture and Lab Topics
Sterile techniques and cell culture; observing different live mammalian cell lines on inverted phase microscope; cell counting with hemocytometer and automatic cell counter; cell passages; transfection methods and their application; freezing and thawing cells; lipofectamine transfection; fluorescent microscopy; starvation assay and osmotic pressure/cytoskeleton assay; end point dilution and G418 drug selection for producing stable cell lines
Contains all notes, protocols, and reference material needed. No additional books are required.
Although no grades are given for Workshops, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours. Upon completion of this 3-day program, each participant will receive 2.1 CEUs. Upon completion of each workshop, a certificate is issued.
