NIH Fellows or NIH community members being sponsored by their lab can enroll tentatively, using the Contract: SF-182 option on the workshop’s registration site while waiting for authorization of payment. Enrollment is not guaranteed until payment is received.
Workshops generally run from 9:00am - 5:00pm.
This four day lecture/laboratory workshop will cover various applications of flow cytometry in basic research. Selected lecture topics will provide a broad background about the functions of a flow cytometer; choice of fluorochromes; data analysis and presentation; technical protocols for flow cytometric procedures and troubleshooting during data acquisition and analysis.
Lecture and Laboratory Topics
Basic Setup of Flow Cytometers; Principle of Cell Sorting; Parameters for Sorting; Alternative Separation Techniques (Including Magnetic Bead Separation MACS); Choice of Fluorochromes Depending on the type of Instrument and Application; Parameters of Analysis, Data Analysis and Interpretation; In-depth Discussion of Examples of Various Flow Cytometric Assays (e.g. Cell Cycle Analysis, Cell Activation, Apoptosis, Immunology, Hematology, Biochemistry with Methodical Protocols); Multi-color Analysis (With Special Emphasis on How to Combine Flurochromes and Fluorescence Compensation); Choosing the Right Controls for Data Analysis (Isotype Controls; FMO controls; Blocking with Antibodies); Spectral Flow Cytometry; Demonstration of Miltenyi Biotec MACSQuant Analyzer, Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX, and Bio-Rad S3e™ Cell Sorter; 15 to 20 color staining (BD FACSymphony™, Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX); Bead-based Immunotechnology (Luminex, Quanterix, Cytometric Bead Array (CBA)); Hands-on Flow Cytometry Data Analysis using FlowJo.

Although no grades are given for BioTech workshops, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours. Upon completion of this 4-day program, each participant will receive 2.8 CEUs. Upon completion of each workshop, a certificate is issued.

100% tuition refund for registrations cancelled 14 or more calendar days prior to the start of the workshop.
50% tuition refund for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 calendar days prior to the start of the workshop.
No refund will be issued for registrations cancelled 3 calendar days or less prior to the start of the workshop.

Cancellations received after 4:00 pm (ET) on business days or received on non-business days are time marked for the following business day.
All refund payments will be processed by the start of the initial workshop.
Suggested Lodging Accommodations
A special rate is available to all workshop attendees. This includes complimentary buffet breakfast, guest room Wi-Fi, and discounted $15 parking per night.
