About the Center

The FAES Social & Academic Center (SAC) was built in 1927 as a private home. FAES purchased the building in 1975 from the Public Health Service Club, which was already using the space as an event venue. In 2005, we began an extensive renovation to update and re-energize this beautiful building for the use of FAES members and their guests.

The SAC is located just steps away from the National Institutes of Health and minutes from Downtown Bethesda, with ample onsite parking for you and your guests.

Business Meetings and Office Events

The FAES Social & Academic Center (SAC) is a great location to host business meetings or office retreats. Our budget friendly pricing makes it easy for managers to take their staff off-site to encourage them to think outside the box, problem-solve, or just help make a retreat more relaxing.

We also understand that team building takes many forms, so we are happy to extend our reasonable rates for general meetings and office socials. 

Features

Our main room can accommodate a conference table and projection for meetings of up to 20 people. Groups of up to 35 guests can be seated auditorium-style for lectures and presentations. Other features include:

Private Social Events

Your life is full of milestones: from birthdays and reunions to weddings and anniversaries. The staff at the FAES Social & Academic Center (SAC) would love to help you celebrate.

Features

The SAC is the ideal venue for small to medium-sized events. Our space can host seated dinners for up to 32 guests and cocktail-style parties for up to 95 guests. The space also includes:

  • iPod dock and whole house stereo system
  • Warming kitchen
  • LCD Projector and screen

Rental Policies

Deposits

All deposits are applied to the final cost of the event. Refunds are given in the same form as the deposit.

Due when you Confirm your reservation. Tentative reservations may be cancelled, with notice, if another group requests the same time.

 

Event Deposit Varies 100% of your estimated Rental Fee. Due 2 weeks prior to the event.
After-hours Alcohol Surcharge $50.00 Applies to all events serving alcohol and occurring, at least in part, after 5pm Monday-Friday, or on the weekend. Due 2 weeks prior to the event.
Beverage Deposit Varies Costs (before sales tax) of all beverages ordered Due 2 weeks prior to the event.
Cleaning Deposit $150.00 Applies if cleaning services are reserved Due 2 weeks prior to the event.

Alcohol

Montgomery County Law requires that you purchase alcohol for your event through the hosting venue. Our retail pricing is both cost effective and convenient with a typical bottle of wine costing about $9. Most groups find that they actually save money with us since you only pay for what you actually use.

Clean-Up Services

We rely on our members and their guests to clean-up after their events in order to keep our rental rates low. However, clean-up services are available by request for a cost of $150 per event. Clean-up services must be reserved with your event and must be paid in full, in advance. Clean-up services do not include furniture reset.

Cancellation and Damages

A cancellation fee of $50 will be assessed for events that are cancelled after a confirmed reservation, unless the time reserved is purchased by another person or group. No-shows will be charged the Minimum Rental Fee plus the Alcohol Surcharge (if applicable).

Damage to the SAC beyond normal wear and tear (or resulting from disregard of the published rules) will be charged to the client at the actual repair cost ($10 minimum).

Failure to clean-up after your event will result in a $200 fee, which will be applied to your final invoice.
