Overview
This introductory-level training course on basics of Bioinformatics will introduce participants to a comprehensive set of bioinformatics concepts, tools and techniques, ultimately facilitating the solution to biological problems. It will provide an overview of several important aspects of bioinformatics such as biological database searching, sequence analysis, protein structure analysis, genome assembly and annotation, building phylogenetic trees, etc. It combines theoretical sections and practical examples allowing participants to gain experience in using various bioinformatics resources including software packages, tools, and algorithms.  An important part of this course is an introduction to relevant open access computational resources and databases.

Prerequisites
A basic background/knowledge in biology is required to benefit most from the learning.
Participants should be comfortable with basic computer skills.

Objective
At the end of the course a trainee should have an idea of the underlying algorithms, know the main steps and elements of several computational (bioinformatics) methods of sequence analysis, and feel comfortable in using online resources.

Who should Attend
This basic course is designed for trainees and interested individuals in the fields of medicine, biology and related fields with little or no experience in bioinformatics.

Training Rate
$1,315.00
Discounted Training Rates
$1,075.00 - NIH Community (Trainees, Employees, Contractors, Volunteers, etc.)
$1,195.00 - Academia, US Government, US Military

Technology Fee
$60.00

Credit
Although no grades are given for courses, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours.   One CEU is equal to ten contact hours. Upon completion of the course each participant will receive a certificate, showing completion of the workshop and 2.8 CEUs.

Refund Policy
100% tuition refund for registrations cancelled 14 or more calendar days prior to the start of the workshop.
50% tuition refund for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 calendar days prior to the start of the workshop.
No refund will be issued for registrations cancelled 3 calendar days or less prior to the start of the workshop.
