Schedule
June 14, 21, 28, 2021 (Live session: 10 AM – 3 PM ET including one hour lunch break and asynchronous components)

Background
In the knowledge economy, we create value using projects and project teams. Advanced Project Management Fundamentals is the second in the series of courses developed for the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES).

The Advanced course extends the learning of the Project Management Fundamentals course. Additional subject domains are introduced, and important knowledge areas are explored in greater detail. This course is recommended for students that:

• Have taken Project Management Essentials or have extensive project management experience and want to expand their knowledge and formal training, or

• Are interested in taking the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam.

This course includes agile and other topics covered in the PMP® certification exam. PM Fundamentals and Advanced PM Fundamentals cover many of the domains required by the PMI; they are not exam prep classes.

This course combines formal classroom instruction, in-class exercises, and outside-of-class group projects. Participants will spend 3-4 hours per week working with others in a case study.

Objectives
This course provides additional training on core topics of project planning and execution and agile project management.

The course leverages critical concepts and processes, as defined in the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide, an ANSI standard. Practical “best practices” and guides are also incorporated.

At the end of the class, participants will have the skills to initiate, plan, execute, and monitor a project. Participants will learn how to work more effectively with their teams and engage their stakeholders.
