The Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences received the 2022 Faculty and Staff Development Award from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA). UPCEA is the leading association for professional, continuing, and online education. As part of its revamped faculty development initiatives, FAES Academic Programs created a Best Teaching Practices in Higher Education course to train scientists in the latest pedagogical methods that promote deep learning, and techniques to foster student engagement with curriculum delivered via online asynchronous course modalities. FAES Academic Programs also added fulltime instructional designers and educational technologists to its staff in order to support course development and provide dedicated resources for faculty.
For more than 100 years, UPCEA has served most of the leading public and private colleges and universities in North America. FAES was recognized at the UPCEA 2022 Mid-Atlantic Region Conference held October 12-14, 2022 in Philadelphia. The Faculty and Staff Development inititaives were launched in 2021. FAES faculty positions offer postdoctoral scholars and established professionals an opportunity to develop their skills beyond the bench, leading courses that advance biomedical research and productivity at the National Institutes of Health and around the world.
