Members of the FAES Academic Programs and Administrative teams received the NEI Director's Award on December 6, 2022 for participating in the "Successful Design and Execution of the Inaugural NEI Eye on the Future Campaign" held in July.
The Eye on the Future Campaign seeks to engage high school students, particularly students from underrepresented groups in science, to see themselves as future scientists. The campaign involves a national video contest where students submit their work. The top 10 films win student filmmakers a visit to the National Institutes of Health to tour research labs and participate in curated prorgams.
Students, or the group of students, who created winning videos in 2022 also attended a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Marie Bernard, Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity. Panelists shared their experiences building science careers as minority scientists and addressed opportunities and the need to increase diversity in science. FAES shared information about academic courses, scholarship and fellowship opportunitites, and resources for emerging science scholars to advance their careers - including online data science classes and microcredentials in bioinformatics.
