This elegant event attracts men and women from industry, government, non-profits organizations, and academia from across the Capital Region Metro Area and provides unique opportunities to meet with some of the region’s most successful women. Speaker Biographies
Dr. Carol A. Nacy is a founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Sequella, Inc., a privately-held pharmaceutical company that discovers and develops new and more effective treatments for life-threatening infectious diseases. Sequella raised $99M to date from institutional and individual investors and peer-reviewed grants. Prior to Sequella, Dr. Nacy was Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at EntreMed, Inc., from 1993 through its successful public offering in June 1996. She left EntreMed in November 1996 to establish Sequella, Inc. and was part-time Chief Scientific Officer (1997-1998) for Anergen, Inc., a California company focused on autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Nacy became full time CEO and Chair of the Board of Sequella in January 1999. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of for-profit companies (Tolergen, Inc., Social and Scientific Systems) and non-profit agencies (Sequella Foundation, Tech Council of Maryland, Foundation for Soldier and World Health, Keck Graduate Institute) and on a number of committees in global health organizations.
Prior to her business experience, Dr. Nacy was career scientist and science manager for 17 years at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC, where she studied tropical infectious diseases. She has published over 165 scientific papers to date. She earned her A.B., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC: in 2002 she was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in Science from this institution.
Amy Millman is a passionate advocate for women entrepreneurs building Big Businesses Starting Small. In 2000, Amy co-founded Springboard Enterprises, a non-profit venture catalyst which sources, coaches, showcases and supports women-led companies seeking equity capital for product development and expansion. Springboard has assisted over 700 women entrepreneurs in raising over $8 billion in investments and connecting with strategic partners and expert resources. The successes of Springboard entrepreneurs include 17 IPOs, hundreds of high value M&As and a global community of accomplished serial entrepreneurs, investors and influencers.
During her career in Washington, DC, she served as a lobbyist for several industry groups and was appointed as Executive Director of the National Women’s Business Council during the Clinton Administration. She’s a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and holds a Masters degree from The George Washington University. A New York native, she now lives in the DC area with her husband and the stuff that her two grown children left behind when they moved to California.
